Let Us Help You Choose a New Air Conditioner

choose-new-air-conditioner-helpGoing without air conditioning during the summer due to a system breakdown or component malfunction is bad enough on its own. But finding out that your aging cooling system needs to be replaced is even worse. It’s always better to replace your AC system as soon as possible, so you aren’t stuck making a major decision about your home comfort in the middle of the hottest months of the year. There are actually quite a few options when it comes to a new Del City, OK air conditioning installation, and it can be tough to choose.

We’ve shared some information below about how to choose the right air conditioner for your home. However, our best advice is to call in one of our professional technicians, who are experienced with AC systems of all shapes and sizes.

First, Let’s Discuss Efficiency

It’s always a good idea to choose an air conditioner with a high-efficiency rating, as this results in lower energy bills. Today’s central AC systems are being designed more and more efficiently, but there are many factors that contribute to just how efficient any one given central system is.

SEER Rating: SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and this number should be at least 13, although the highest efficiency systems go up to a rating of 20 and beyond.

Brand: Choosing a leading brand is a great way to ensure that your air conditioner will run efficiently and use the latest in technology, but only if you have other factors in place as well… such as:

Sizing: You probably already know that if sized too small for your home, even an efficient air conditioner won’t be able to successfully cool your home. But one that is too large for your home can work adequately either—it will go through a process called short cycling, where it turns on and off rapidly, and inefficiently.

Special Features: Features such as variable speed settings or a two-stage system makes your air conditioner even more efficient.

Beyond the Central AC

As we mentioned, the central air conditioners of today are designed to be very efficient. However, they aren’t right for every home and situation, which is why it’s important to know your other options.

Heat Pumps: These two-in-one systems offer comfort all year round in that they both cool your home in the summer, and reverse the refrigerant process in the winter in order to warm your home.

Ductless Systems: As the name implies, ductless systems don’t require ductwork. This means that they don’t take up as much space, are much more efficient, and don’t suffer the same indoor air quality problems that a central AC would.

Geothermal: This is another system that operates on heat pump technology. It uses the steady temperature of the earth, and a reversible refrigerant process, to both cool your home during the summer and warm it during the winter. Geothermal systems are best installed during home construction, but can be integrated into an existing home.
